This Creepy Thriller
Scott Derrickson's contained scarefest remains effective even without a follow-up. Set in 1978 Denver, a series of disappearances has rendered the youth anxious. This Dramatic Portrait
In the struggle between God and Mammon, it's a knockout win for greed in this director's wonderfully garish true story of the disgraced TV preacher and her criminal husband. The actor plays the venal Jim, who states at the beginning, “God does not want us to be poor,”. He and Tammy Faye set about capitalizing on the people's religious faith. It's a spectacle of bad interior design, excessive cosmetics and insincerity, though Jessica Chastain manages to present Tammy Faye with compassion. Tuesday 14 October, late night, Film4
